The Garden State Sheep Breeders is a non-profit, educational organization promoting sheep and wool products in New Jersey. We regularly hold educational and business meetings, sponsor awards at events where sheep and wool products are featured, and host an annual sheep and fiber festival.
In 2018 we announced the introduction of the Garden State Sheep Breeders Youth Ambassador Program. Details and application for the 2019 Ambassador are available on the Youth Ambassador Program page. The 2019 winner was Rebecca Kornhaber and will continue in her role as there was no contest in 2020.
Most of our members have small flocks and are hobby farmers. Many sell breeding stock, wool products, and handmade craft items. Membership dues for Sep. 2020 – Aug. 2021 are:
$5/year Assoc. Member (ages 10-18)
$15/year Single Member
$20/year Family Membership.
Next membership cycle will run from Jan. 2022 – Dec. 2022. A lifetime membership category will be added as well as a Vendor Affiliate Membership. More details later in 2021.
Please see the membership page for more information including the benefits of membership.
Our meetings feature speakers talking on a variety of sheep related subjects. Recent topics have been on lambing, pasture management, color sheep genetics and making cheese from sheep’s milk.
Meetings are open to the public. The dates and locations will be listed on our Facebook page, Twitter feed, posted to the Member Group email (groups.io)sites and as posts on this site (look under “Recent Posts” in the right hand column).
