2019 Fleece Show and Sale

  • Registration for the Fleece Show & Sale will take place online only. Details and a link to the registration form appear below.  Register your fleeces no later than Saturday, August 31, 2019.

  • Fleece check-in for the Show and Sale will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, September 4 and 5, 2019, between 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the fairgrounds.  Due to schedule change, we will now accept drop offs Friday 9/06/19 from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
  • By popular demand, the Show and Sale will open earlier this year – Saturday at 9:00 a.m.!
  • We will be accepting credit cards this year, in addition to cash and checks, for all fleece sales.
  • There will be a 5% commission on all sales to help defray processing costs. We thank you for your understanding.

Show and Sale Registration

Please read and follow these instructions, which will ensure a smooth process for all participants.

    1. Register securely online by entering the requested information, pay $3 for each fleece entered, and then save or print out your receipt.  Instructions for marking your bags and a summary of your fleece entries will be emailed to you as soon as you’ve submitted your entries.There are detailed instructions to

a. Pay online with PayPal, or

b. Mail us your check in advance, or

c. Pay using cash or check at fleece check-in

2. Drop off your registered fleeces at the Hunterdon County Fairgrounds  Wednesday and Thursday, 9/04 and 9/05/19, between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

3. Closed judging of show fleeces will take place on Friday, 9/06/19

4. Show & Sale will open bright and early Saturday, 9/07/19 at 9:00 a.m.!

5. Sale will continue until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, 9/08/19, at which time unsold fleeces must be claimed by presenting the participant’s copy of the registration form (provided when you drop off fleeces) showing the fleece number assigned by Garden State Sheep Breeders at registration.  Unclaimed fleeces become the property of the GSSB.

Show and Sale Rules:

  1. Each fleece must be clean, free of tags and vegetation, and have no second cuts. Please don’t bring moldy or insect-infested fleeces! We reserve the right to reject fleeces that do not meet minimum standards. Entry fees for rejected fleeces cannot be refunded.
  2. The judge may move fleeces to a more appropriate division/class, if necessary.
  3. Fleeces must be from the current year and represent a single shearing from animal owned by entrant.
  4. Only whole fleeces may be sold.
  5. Each fleece must be skirted and placed in a clear plastic bag. YouTube features several excellent videos on how to skirt your fleece, if you’re not sure how to do this.
  6. Leave the bagged fleeces untied. Bags will be tied by GSSB staff so that the correct opening for viewing by judges and/ or buyers is maintained.
  7. Ribbons will be awarded for 3 places in each class. The Best In Show will receive a rosette.
  8. All checks for prize premiums and sales proceeds will be mailed as quickly as possible after the close of the show.

We reserve the right to create a new class if there are sufficient entries (~10 fleeces). Typically the featured breed will have its own class.    These definitions are also included on the entry form.

Division N – Natural Colored Sheep Fleeces

F Fine – Merino, Rambouillet, Targhee, etc.
M Medium – Corriedale, Columbia, Cheviot, Tunis, etc.
L Long – Cotswold, Lincoln, Leicester, etc.
C Coarse – Karakul, Scottish Blackface, Navajo-Churro, etc.
R Romney – Purebred Natural Colored Romney
S Shetland
B Baby Doll Southdown

Division W – White Sheep Fleeces

NOTE: This info will be emailed along with a Summary of Fleeces Entered.

Write the shortened fleece ID in permanent marker on the outside of the corresponding bag for each fleece.
Here’s how to create the shortened fleece ID.
Use the last 3 digits of your order/ reference number, a hyphen, followed by the fleece number in your entries.
Example 1 (look at your receipt for this info):
